Veronica Edwards, Founder and CEO InGenesis Medical Staffing, SBA Small Business Person of the Year

Veronica EdwardsVeronica Edwards is the founder and CEO of InGenesis Medical Staffing. This San Antonio-based medical recruiting agency employs over 175 nurses, physicians and other allied health professionals working at military facilities and public institutions nationwide.

In 2007 Veronica received a Latina Business Excellence Award from Compass Bank, UTSA and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in recognition of her leadership abilities, character and outstanding business accomplishments. The same year InGenesis reported revenue of $2.7 million and sales growth of 182.7 percent (from 2004 to 2007). News of that success prompted Inc. business magazine to place InGenesis on its prestigious 2008 Inc5000 list of the 5,000 fastest-growing U.S. companies. The firm also earned a spot on Inc.’s 2008 roster of America’s 100 fastest-growing Human Resources companies. Additionally, in 2008 the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) honored the InGenesis.org Web site with three employee communication awards: one regional IABC Silver Quill (entries from 14 U.S. states, 15 nations) and two IABC Bronze Quills (entries from S. Texas).

Veronica holds an MBA from the University of the Incarnate Word and a BA in Journalism from Texas State University, and has taught college-level advanced marketing classes. She credits her success in the medical staffing industry to this formal business education and 12 years of AT&T sales/marketing and operations management experience at the regional Director level. Veronica won seven major sales/marketing awards, and at one point in her telecom career managed 1,000 sales people and a $25 million budget.

A San Antonio native, Veronica is married and the mother of two children. She represents her family’s third generation of highly successful Latina businesswomen. Both Veronica’s mother and grandmother in particular instilled in her a strong sense of ethics and a spiritual foundation which continue to guide her daily business decisions.

Due to America’s growing need for medical professionals, Veronica is encouraging Greater San Antonio youth to pursue healthcare degrees/certifications. InGenesis already gives two medical-focused scholarships to college students, military veterans and high school seniors.
